KABUL, April 27 (Xinhua|RSS) — A man wearing an Afghan army uniform shot dead a U.S. soldier in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, the U.S. forces said in a press release on Thursday. “An individual wearing an Afghan National Army uniform turned his weapon against coalition service members in southern Afghanistan late yesterday, killing one service member,” the U.S. Force Afghanistan (USFOR-A) said in a statement.
“The individual who opened fire was killed when coalition forces returned fire. A joint Afghan and USFOR-A team is investigating the incident,” it added. This is the 11th incident of its kind when Afghan army, police or gunmen using their uniform turn their weapons against U.S. and NATO forces stationed in the country, leaving 18 soldiers dead so far this year.
