Kathmandu, May 1: Constituent Assembly (CA) members representing various political parties here on Tuesday have called for dividing the far-western region into two provinces, against the ongoing indefinite strike enforced in the region calling for an integrated far west in the new Constitution.
At a press conference organized at the CA Building premises today, 22 CA members from various political parties came with an unanimous voice that the demand to keep the far west integrated was anti-federal.
They instead called for two separate provinces—one in the hilly region and one in the tarai region.
Speaking on behalf of the 22 CA members on the occasion, Maoist CA member Sharat Singh Bhandari called for a withdrawal of the general shut down currently in place in the far west calling for an integrated far west.
Various local parties in the region have enforced a general shut down in the far west since April 27 in protest against the UCPN (Maoist) proposal to divide the far west into Tarai and Hill province.
The CA members present at the press meet also termed the general strike as ‘politically motivated’ and demanded its immediate withdrawal
