Five armed men killed in clash with police in Philippines

MANILA, May 2 (Xinhua) – Five armed men were killed in a shootout with policemen in Cagayan, north Philippines, where the suspects were seen tailing the vehicle of a top police official, police said Wednesday.

Cagayan provincial police chief Mao Aplasca said the incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday near San Lorenzo village in Lallo town.

Aplasca said Abra provincial police chief Alexander Rafael and his security escorts were aboard a car when they saw a Toyota Corona car, where the five suspects were aboard, following them.

Rafael ordered his men to flag down the Corona car “but they were immediately fired upon by the suspects that prompted them to retaliate.” “The firefight resulted in the death of all suspects on board the Toyota Corona,”

Aplasca said. Recovered at the scene were the suspects’ car, their two M16 rifles and a cal. 45 pistol
