KABUL, May 2, 2012 (AFP) – Taliban insurgents claimed a suicide attack in the Afghan capital Kabul Wednesday, shortly after US President Barack Obama left the city after an overnight visit.

“Today a devoted mujahid carried out a suicide car bomb attack on a foreign military base in Kabul, followed by other devoted mujahids (holy warriors) entering the base,” a Taliban spokesman told AFP.

“It is a message to Obama that he and his forces are never welcomed in Afghanistan and that we will continue our resistance until all the occupiers are either dead or leave our country,” said Zabiullah Mujahid.

At least six people were killed in the attack, the interior ministry spokesman told AFP, adding that the target was the well-known “Green Village” used by international organisations including the European Union and the UN.
