GOVT APPROACH ONLY PERPETUATING FOOD CRISIS: INSEC

Nepalgunj, May 27: The mid and far western hill suffer from severe food crisis every due to the focus only on short term service by the government and non-government authorities concerned, according to a report released today.

The report released by Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC), Regional Office, Nepalgunj, said the traditional approach of solving immediate problem of food crisis by supplying rice, pulse and salt through planes when the crisis appears cannot be a lasting solution to the food crisis in the districts.

The report suggested the government and non-government bodies to bring programmes to make the people living in Kalikot, Humla, Mugu, Rukum, Jumla, Dailakh, Dolpa, Jajarkot, Pyuthan and Rolpa districts self-sufficient in food production rather than providing short term solutions to food crisis.

For this, the report said, roads should be constructed to decrease high transportation costs, locals should be encouraged to use local foods and food distribution process should be made scientific, according to INSEC Regional Coordinator Bhola Mahat. RSS
