CONSTRUCTION OF RING ROAD BEGINS IN BIRATNAGAR

Morang, May 28: The second phase construction of a ring road in Biratnagar has started.

Urban Development and Building Construction Office under the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works is undertaking the construction.

The load linking neighbouring VDCs of Biratnagar – Tankisinwari, Baijanathpur and Jhorahat – reaches Hattimudha in the north, Ikarahi in west, Rani in south and connects to Koshi Highway.

“Establishing an office, we are preparing for tracks opening,” said planning officer of Ring Road Project Rudra Narayan Mishra.

The plan to construct a ring road here was floated 10 years ago to cope with increasing number of vehicles. However, it was put on hold following the problem in land requisition and budget gathering.

In the first phase, map of the ring road was prepared and a survey was carried out, but the construction work stalled in no time after the twin problems. Concerned over the obstruction, locals repeatedly drew attention of political parties and government officials to the project.

At present, the project is constructing culverts after finalizing a tender worth Rs 5 million. It is preparing to invite another tender worth Rs 5 million for opening tracks in Katahari area. RSS
