‘PUT MUSEUM ON PRIORITY’
Kathmandu, May 31: The government should pay proper attention for the preservation and advancement of museum as it is the identity marker of the nation, culture experts stressed.
Presenting a working paper at the workshop held at meeting hall of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Prof. Dr. Ganesh Gurung said the tiny concept of museum that was set up in the residence of then Prime Minister Bhimsen Thapa at the moment has been established as an important part of national identity today.
He voiced his complaint that the government has not paid proper attention to protect and promote museum at a time when mobile museum has been developed around the world.
Prof. Dr. Mukunda Aryal while presenting paper on museum and social coordination termed museum as ‘broader education centre’ and floated an idea to develop museums as a platform to exchange identities of diversified nationalities and religion and culture prevailing in Nepal.
At the programme, Dilli Raj Sharma said there is no comprehensive anthology of arts and creations ranging from the east to west so far, however museum has been incepted to preserve various types of identities existing in the country.
Similarly, Prof. Dr. Surendra KC put forward a concept of enhancing museums as a place to exchange knowledge and experience of the cultures of more than 100 nationalities currently in existence in Nepal.
On the occasion, General Director of Department of Archeology Bishnu Raj Karki informed this year the museum has conducted various programme than that of previous years, urging all for support in this connection.
Admitting that much has not been done as expected on the part of the government for the development of museum, he further informed that the government has started providing grant assistance of Rs. 15 million to various museums across the country from this year.
He said the Department is mulling programme to execute in collaboration with various schools to establish linkage and coordination between museums and the community.
Speaking on the occasion, former general director of the Department Kosh Prasad Acharya, Dr. Saphalya Amatya, Dr. Khadakman Shrestha, Dr. Ramesh Dhungel, including other noted culture experts underlined the need of taking concrete measures for the development of museums.
On the occasion, prizes were given away to the best participants of oratory, painting and other creative activities organized by the Department in various schools this year. RSS
