HURON -APPEAL

Kathmandu, May 26: The Human Rights Organization of Nepal (HURON) has appealed to all sides concerned, including the United Nations and the Government of India to immediately take effective steps for ensuring the safety, security and the human rights of members of the Nepali speaking community living in Meghalaya, India.

The people of the local Khasi community have been killing the people of the Nepali speaking community who have been living in Meghalaya, India for hundreds of years on different pretexts, and in this connection 17 members of the Nepali speaking community have been killed and over 40,000 displaced within a week, HURON said in a press release.

HURON expressed serious objections to the incidents in which people of the Nepali speaking community have been burnt alive.

It said the gruesome killing and displacement of thousands of people of the minority Nepali speaking community in the world’s largest democracy is in violation of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and the Indian Constitution and prevailing laws. RSS
