NHRC'S CONCERN OVER HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION IN MEGHALAYA

Kathmandu, May 26: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has expressed concern over the attacks and cases of human rights violations in the north eastern states of India targeting the people of Nepali origin.

A letter sent by the commission to the India's National Human Rights Commission today says that it is ready for the collaboration to address the state of human rights violations there.

"As per the news being disseminated by media and information provided by the people returning from Meghalaya and Assam, the Nepalis there are being burnt alive and attacked by the local indigenous community mainly the Khasiya tribe," the letter further reads.

The letter also urges the Indian commission to immediately take effective measures to ensure the right to life and property of the Nepalis there. According to the letter, thousands of Nepalis have been displaced from the north eastern part of India following the ongoing attacks and incidents of human rights violations. RSS
